Business setup in Dubai starts from around AED 12,900 for a free zone company, AED 18,500 for an offshore company, and AED 29,999 for a mainland company. These are starting points. Your final cost depends on your activity, number of visas, and office needs.

One tip: compare the total cost of running the business, not just the headline licence fee. Our cost calculator (https://www.decisivezone.ae/calculate-cost/) gives you a tailored estimate in under a minute.

The three differ mainly in where you can trade, whether you need an office, and how you're taxed:

Mainland: licensed by the DET. Trade anywhere in the UAE, sell directly to local customers, and bid for government contracts. Full foreign ownership for most activities.
Free zone: 100% ownership, streamlined setup, and a possible 0% tax rate on qualifying income. Selling into the mainland usually needs a local distributor or agent.
Offshore: for business conducted outside the UAE, such as holding structures and international trade. No physical office or residence visa, and no trading inside the UAE market.

In short: mainland for the local market, free zone for cost efficiency and international operations, offshore for holding and cross-border activity.

Yes, in almost all cases - mainland, free zone, or offshore. The 2021 Commercial Companies Law reform removed the old requirement for a UAE national to hold 51% of a mainland company, and now covers over 1,000 commercial and industrial activities.

The exceptions are a short list of strategic-impact activities that may still need special approval. Free zones have always allowed full ownership. We can confirm your activity qualifies before you file.

Most setups take anywhere from a few business days to a few weeks, depending on your route.

Free zone company: often 1 to 5 business days once your documents are in order.
Mainland company: typically 5 to 14 working days, since it involves DET approvals and, in some cases, external activity clearances.
Offshore company: generally quick, as there's no office lease or visa process attached.

The licence is only part of the timeline. Visas, medical tests, Emirates ID, and banking add time on top. Delays almost always come from incomplete paperwork, which is exactly what our team prevents.

It depends on your structure. Office requirements are one of the biggest practical differences between the three setup routes.

Mainland companies generally require a physical office or commercial premises to secure the trade licence. For some activities, a flexi-desk or shared office space is enough to get started.
Free zone companies are the most flexible. Most zones bundle a flexi-desk or shared workspace into the licence package, and a full private office is optional until you scale.
Offshore companies need no physical office in the UAE at all.

One thing to plan for early: office size often affects how many visas you can issue. We can match your setup to both your budget and visa needs.

Setting up a company lets you sponsor your own UAE residence visa, plus visas for partners, staff, and family.

The typical flow:

- Company formation and establishment cardEntry permit
- Status change and medical test
- Emirates ID registration
- Visa stamping

Your visa quota depends on your licence and office space. Golden Visas offer long-term residency for those who qualify, and dependent visas cover family once your own is active. Decisive Zone processes visas in parallel with your setup.

There's no single best zone. The right one depends on your activity, budget, and where your customers are. A few examples:

IFZA and Meydan - lower-cost options for consultancies and startups.
DMCC - commodities, trading, and crypto.
JAFZA - logistics, manufacturing, and industry.
DIFC and ADGM - regulated finance and fintech.

The cheapest package isn't always the cheapest to run once visas and renewals are counted. We compare zones against your actual requirements.

The UAE applies 9% corporate tax on taxable profits above AED 375,000, and 0% below that threshold. A few key points:

The 9% applies only to the portion above AED 375,000, not the full amount.

Free zone companies aren't automatically exempt - 0% applies only to qualifying income for a Qualifying Free Zone Person that meets the conditions. Other income is taxed at 9%.
Eligible small businesses under AED 3 million in revenue can claim Small Business Relief for tax periods through the end of 2026.
Every in-scope business must register with the Federal Tax Authority and file within nine months of its year-end, even if no tax is due.

The biggest misconception is that a free zone licence means zero tax. Your structure and income streams decide the outcome. Our tax team helps you register, structure, and stay compliant.

This is a general overview, not tax advice. Confirm your position with a qualified advisor.

You open a corporate account once your company is licensed, by submitting your documents and passing the bank's compliance checks.

You'll typically need:

- Your trade licence and incorporation certificate
- Shareholder and director details (passports, Emirates IDs or visas)
- Your Memorandum and Articles of Association
- A clear picture of your activity, expected turnover, and source of funds

Requirements and timelines vary by bank, and a weak application is the usual reason accounts stall. Our banking specialists match you to the right bank and prepare your file to clear compliance first time.

In many cases, yes. Much of company formation can now be completed remotely through digital portals - registering the company, reserving a name, and receiving your licence.

Where a visit may still be needed:

Bank account opening - some banks require in-person or video verification.
Visa medical test and Emirates ID biometrics - generally require you to be present, if you're taking a residence visa.

If you just need a licence or an offshore structure, you may never travel. If you want residency, a short visit is usually part of it. Either way, Decisive Zone handles the paperwork so your presence is only needed where it truly has to be.
